Trella Costa - Bodies in Motion

"Bodies in Motion" was the first of a long line of fitness shows to air on the sports oriented network ESPN. "Bodies in Motion," the brain child of Gilad Janklowicz, made its debut on ESPN in 1985. Each episode followed the same straight forward formula. The first segment was devoted to cardiovascular training. The next segment would focus on strength and conditioning, often times with weights. Lastly, the half-hour show would end with a cool down segment.

Filmed on location in picturesque Hawaii, Gilad Janklowicz would always perform the choreographed routines with several other fitness instructors. Typically, the group would range from three to seven. The formula proved to be so successful that ESPN in 1988 launched a spin off featuring Gilad's sister Ada Janklowicz. The show was called "Basic Training: The Workout" and had of a military theme -- it undoubtedly reminded many viewers of boot camp. The show aired each weekday for five years until it was cancelled in 1993. "Bodies in Motion," however, continued to run for another three years by keeping its workouts fresh and innovative.

Notables such as Jack La Lanne, Joe Theisman, and even Gilad's mother have been part of the choreographed workouts on "Bodies in Motion." Gilad also used local talent in Hawaii to round out the group of instructors. Trella Costa, debuting in 1986, was one of the locals selected and appeared regularly on the show during its eleven year run on ESPN. Trella was also a cast member of the spin off fitness show "Basic Training: The Workout."

Even though Bodies in Motion was cancelled in 1996 that did not signal its end. The Health Network picked up the show in 1996 -- re-airing old episodes from ESPN in addition to new episodes also shot on location in the Hawaiian islands. The show aired on the Health Network until it was dropped in 2002. "Bodies in Motion" was almost immediately picked up in 2002 by the fledgling cable channel Fit TV, where is can still be seen each week day.

For those looking for a more targeted work out, Fit Tv is now also offering another Gilad Janklowicz production. "Total Body Sculpt with Gilad" made its Fit Tv debut in 2005 and serves as a nice alternative to more aerobic "Bodies in Motion" workouts still being aired on Fit Tv. "Total Body Sculpt with Gilad" takes body sculpting to the next level while offering strength training for beginners and intermediate level viewers alike.
